Laissez-faire is considered by the other name which is delegative leadership. It is a unique leadership style in which the leaders are hands-off and the members would be able to make a decision for the company. Many of the researchers are saying that if the company is following this leadership style then there would be lowest productivity among group members. Through this leadership style, the company may face benefits as well as possible pitfalls. There are various situations where laissez-faire leadership is playing an important role. Characteristics:

Laissez faire leadership considers various characteristics which are as follows:

  1. Hands-off approach
  2. Leaders would be providing training and support.
  3. Employees are making the decisions
  4. Comfort with mistakes

Many of the company’s leaders are still dependent on group members for approach and consultation. When the project is about to start, the leaders would be providing them with some guidelines and then they would be allowing the group members to work on their projects with little oversight. 

Benefits of laissez faire leadership

As every leadership has its own advantages and disadvantages, similarly, laissez-faire leadership is also having advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages of laissez-faire are as follows:

  1. This is very helpful for personal growth because in this leaders are hands-off and the employees working are hands-on. It is making a wonderful environment which is veyr helpful in growth and development. 
  2. It is just like a freedom given to the employees which would be providing them with creativity and innovation.
  3. In this leadership style, the person or employees have to make decisions on their own as there is no micromanagement. They can even make quick decisions while not depending on the approval for weeks from the management.

If the person wants these advantages then they have to make some preconditions. If the leaders think that the members or the employees are well-qualified and capable of doing their work on their own then this leadership style would be very helpful. The group members are experts in their field and they just require some guidance for doing the work. 

Disadvantages of laissez faire style:

You would know that this style depends on the abilities of the group. It is considered effective when the team is not having enough knowledge or experience to deal with the situations and complete the tasks. Some of the disadvantages of laissez-faire style are as follows:

  1. Lack of role clarity: When the person is not provided with guidance then they would not be knowing about their roles in that project. 
  2. Poor involvement with the group: If the leaders are not putting any involvement in the project then the team members would not have any concern about the project.

Conclusion

When the person sees that there is a poor outcome then they can use the laissez faire style as it is more useful in various situations. In this, the person can provide some guidance and settings to the employees if they are stuck somewhere in the project and even change the leadership style if you think that the employees are taking the project lenient.
